I haven't done this trail in 33 years. I will be there next week and hope my 9 year old son enjoys it as much as my only time up.

I would love to use your Appalachian photos in an educational multimedia show on mountaintop removal. May I have your permission?

Back in 1977 when Potato Creek State Park (in Northern Indiana) opened, it was much the same. Now 31 years later it has become a great park with great shade trees on most of the campsites, great hiking and bike trails and one of the most visited State Parks in Indiana! Prophetstown will get there, it will just take time.

Hi Nicole. Thanks for the great comment. Don't worry, I plan on adding several new places this year now that the weather is improving. For the time being though, don't forget about the Deam Wilderness. It is Indiana's only designated wilderness area as far as I know. Check it out... http://www.indianaoutfitters.com/Destinations/Hoosier_National/wilderness_west_and_sycamore.htm

Also, you must check out Eric the Reds "Get out of town" website. He's covered a lot more of Indiana than I have.

I came across this blog while looking for information on Prophetstown's camping facilities and agree that it looks very sparse out there. If I can make a suggestion, please write more about Indiana locations that offer those "places that time forgot" vibes. I haven't lived here very long and love to find them. My favorite so far are the Clegg Botanic Gardens and trails (right across from our house on the Wildcat Creek) but nowhere else seems to present that feeling of true wilderness. Anyway, thanks for the great blog!

Can't you get stem cells from the cord? Anyway I want to note that I enjoyed this article. I have been arguing a lot of these points to anyone who will listen - not quite as eloquently - and I enjoyed the article. As far as pro-choice is concerned I believe it is an issue that we are not going to change so I don't ever vote based on it. It the gov makes abortion illegal woman will go back to coat hangers. I personally would never have an abortion - but I also don't feel the government can or will abolish it anytime soon. We've had Mr. Pro-life in for almost 8 years and I don't think I have heard him mention it once after being elected.

Thank you for the great articles - I love reading your posts.
